The Osprey Poco Plus
As a Father’s day gift for Brian my mom pitched in with me and we picked him up a new hiking backpack/Cooper carrier. We have been using an old Kelty kids one that was handed down to us by people MUCH taller than us and it just didn’t fit. When Cooper was smaller it was fine but the more weight he gains it is just too tough to carry him with hip straps that don’t fit and a missing chest support strap. So after a little research we decided to pick up this bad boy:

It can hold up to a child up to about 40 lbs and it had all the supports and fit adjustables we were looking for. My only deterrent was the hefty price tag at around $275 (with MA tax). However when I feasted my eyes upon the retractable sun shield I was in. I am a sucker for “extra” (even when I am clearly paying for them)

This back pack sat Cooper up a little higher than our original one and I think it made him nervous at first but once we put up the sun shield I think it helped make him feel more contained and safe. We just did a quick flat hike/walk around Morris Island in Chatham, MA to test it out and we absolutely loved it!
We usually switch back and forth because he gets so heavy but with the proper balance and support this backpack provides we only kept switching because we both wanted to keep trying it out! Cooper especially seemed fond of the little foot holders that he could whip his feet around in to give Brian a good “HEEHAW” when he felt like it.
I think all around it was a great purchase and a HUGE improvement over the Kelty. I am really excited to be able to try it out over the summer up in New Hampshire and Vermont and tackle some bigger obstacles, all with my little man in tow, soaking up fresh air and the sights and sounds of the mountains!
